Groundcover
Groundcover plants protect the soil from erosion. They hug the ground and act as living mulch. Some examples of groundcovers include: strawberries, ajuga, emerald carpet, etc. Groundcovers help moderate soil temperature and prevent the growth of weeds.
The parallel in our cities are places that protect our communities and environment. Co-housing, land trusts, ecovillages, community gardens, environmental protection organizations, and community networks are the groundcovers in our urban system. We find strength through joining with others and protecting that which we love. Through collaboration, we may discover diverse interests, possibilities, and solutions.
