Philosophies
Many years ago, I decided to own the truth of an Abraham Lincoln quote, "Most men are as happy as they make up their minds to be." I also have other philosophies which simplify my decision-making process, both personally and professionally. A few of these are:
"What do I know for sure?" Whenever I need to make a decision, I try to concentrate on what I know to be true. The things I can count on help me sort through the variables.
"What Goes Around Comes Around." I believe this to be true both positively and negatively. If I show kindness, give people the benefit of the doubt, and have a little fun every day (a whole philosophy of its own) I believe it will come back to me. If I generate anger, mistrust, and negative gossip, I expect to reap the same.
"Integrity-Not for Sale." I often ponder what price I could place on my integrity. If someone was to give me back too much change, would I sell out for ten dollars or worse, a quarter? No matter how great the temptation, I remind myself that I'm not for sale.
I smile at the future.
