Slow Food/ Food Justice Event

J. Treacy Kreger, local chef and delegate to the Slow Food's Sixth International Congress and the Terra Madre 2012 event held in Turin, Italy in late October, will speak on Monday, December 10, noon, at the Tumwater Timberland Library, 7023 New Market St. SW.

Treacy will share what he learned at the Terra Madre gathering of delegates from 95 countries, all focused on good, clean and fair food worldwide and for all people. Among the themes at the event was the importance of saving and celebrating the diversity of the foods in our lives. Slow Food relies on the Ark of Taste project to focus attention on foods at risk of disappearing if we do not pay attention to their production and use in our own meals.

Treacy will also focus on food justice and share how work being done in our community to support a stronger local food system fits with these international themes. Attendees are welcome to bring their sack lunches during this noon-time presentation.
