Edible Forest Gardens

If we had planted walnut, chestnut and hazelnut trees around Olympia neighborhoods twenty years ago we'd have a lot of nutritious food today for our community. We didn't, but it's not too late. We can do it now! Nuts are rich in energy, protein, packed with antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and the much discussed omega-3 fatty acids - and they are gluten free.

Types that do well in Olympia are English Walnut, Chestnut, Butternut, Heartnut, and Hazelnut Hedges. Nut trees are available for purchase through Edible Forest Gardens to be planted all over Olympia!

The Cooper Point Neighborhood Association has received a City of Olympia Neighborhood Matching Grant for $2000 to buy nut trees to plant on public land on Cooper Point, at schools, in parks, at the Fire Station and in City right of ways. Neighbors will be invited to "adopt" the trees to watch over them as they grow.
