"Envirotalk" - An Invitation to Join

By SPEECH'S ListServe

It has been over 10 years since the South Puget Environmental Education Clearinghouse (SPEECH) started "Envirotalk." This is a listserve that is intended to provide an internet based media to share news, events and discussion related to preserving, protecting and promoting the health of our common surroundings.

Currently there are approximately 150 members, including community and neighborhood activists, elected officials, and former elected officials. Some members opt to only receive special notices and many do not actually participate in online discussions.

Membership is moderated to avoid spam and personal attacks. You must apply for membership and provide some information about yourself and why you want to join. This can be done by one of the following ways:

  1. Send a message to envirotalk-subscribe@yahoogroups.com. You will get a response telling you the next steps.
  2. Send an email to envirotalk-owner@yahoogroups.com asking that you be made a member.

Provide some information about yourself and why you would like to join Envirotalk. This will go to the owner of the group who will contact you, if needed, to verify your information.

  3. Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/envirotalk/ and click on the Join This Group! link. This method will require that you join Yahoo! Groups. #} According to SPEECH's Yahoo! Groups description, "This list provides ing events, meetings, discussing issues and otherwise exploring environmental concerns in the South Puget Sound area. You can freely discuss political issues and even agree or disagree with various politicians' positions on these issues, but please do not endorse particular candidates or parties, or solicit contributions for them. Doing this could jeopardize SPEECH as a 501(c)(3) (nonprofit, educational) organization."

So if you are interested in becoming part of an online community that is committed to protecting and improving South Sound environmental resources, consider becoming a member of Envirotalk.
