Biointensive Gardening Pioneer John Jeavons in Olympia

Sustainable South Sound (SSS) welcomes biointensive gardening guru John Jeavons to Olympia for two public events in September. On Friday, September 24 Jeavons will present a public lecture from 7:00 – 9:00 pm in Lecture Hall 1 of The Evergreen State College. The lecture is free. Donations will be accepted to support the work of the SSS Urban Agriculture Program.

On Saturday, September 25, Jeavons will present a one day biointensive workshop from 8:30 – 5:30 pm at the Wendell Berry Community Garden, 928 Wilson St NE. In this workshop, John will share eight essential aspects of the GROW BIOINTENSIVE method including: Deep Soil Preparation, Raised Beds, Composting, Intensive Planting, Companion Planting, Carbon Farming, Calorie Farming, Use of Open-Pollinated Seeds, and A Whole-System Farming Method. John will also provide time for questions and answers concerning small-scale farming, long-term sustainable soil fertility, climate and market challenges.

The GROW BIOINTENSIVE method gives farmers and gardeners of all skill levels the potential to use up to 67-88% less water, 50% less purchased fertilizer, and 94-99% less energy per unit of production while creating a substantial increase in soil fertility and yields!
