Wanted: Sustainable Urban Homesteads

Are you creating a sustainable urban homestead? Have you eliminated your yard and replaced it with an organic vegetable garden or edible forest garden? Do you have a chicken coop and a backyard flock? Are you composting, harvesting rainwater, or collecting greywater? Using solar or wind energy? Taking other steps to make your home more sustainable? Want to use your experience to empower other members of the community to take similar steps? If so Sustainable South Sound (SSS) wants to hear from you!

On Saturday, Aug. 7 SSS will be presenting the first annual Sustainable Urban Homestead Tour. The tour is part of the "Skills for Healthy, Sustainable Living" series sponsored by SSS, GRuB, Olympia Food Coop and Thurston County. The tour is designed to give people practical examples of how people right here in our urban area are making the transition to more sustainable lifestyles.

We are seeking a few more homes to feature on the tour. If you live in the Olympia urban area and are interested in learning more, or are ready to sign up, contact TJ Johnson at tjjohnson@ scattercreek.com, or 360-943-4596.
