Seeking Advisory Group Participants

If you are interested in the water quality and health of the Deschutes River, Capitol Lake, and Budd Inlet, then the Washington State Department of Ecology has an opportunity for you. Ecology is forming an advisory group to assist in developing a water quality summary implementation strategy (SIS) as part of a water quality improvement project (or TMDL) for the Deschutes watershed.

A successful SIS "identifies the entities needed to accomplish tasks and activities to clean up the Deschutes watershed." The SIS development process requires direct input from as many affected parties as possible in the watershed to be truly effective. By joining the advisory group, or attending the meetings, individuals can help identify, plan, or oversee cleanup activities.

The advisory group has met three times in 2009 and the TMDL process is already underway, but it is not too late for organizations, agencies, or interested citizens to get involved or attend a meeting. The next meeting will be June 4th, 9:00 am at the Tumwater Fire Department. See the website at http://www.ecy.wa.gov/programs/wq/tmdl/deschutes/advgrp.html for updates and more information.
