Rain Garden Workshop Helps Protect Water, Home

How can you fix drainage problems around your home while also doing your part to help protect streams and Puget Sound? Build a rain garden! Learn how and why to build one or more rain gardens in your yard to create a low-maintenance, attractive feature that will also help protect local waterways, provide habitat, and keep stormwater away from your house.

Local rain garden how-to workshops will be offered on Sunday, March 29, from 1:30-4:00 pm in Shelton; on Thursday, April 2, from 6:30- 8:45 pm in Yelm; and on Thursday, April 16, from 6:30-8:45 pm in Tumwater. Each participant will receive detailed information about designing and building a rain garden, as well as a free detailed step-by-step color guidebook.

The workshops are free, but advanced registration is required so participants know how to prepare for the workshop. For more details and to register, contact the WSU Native Plant Salvage Project at (360) 754-3588 ext. 109 or mailto:nativeplantsalvage@gmail.com The workshops are co-sponsored by the Thurston County & Tumwater Stream Team Programs, Mason Conservation District, and WSU Extension.
