Black Lake Ditch Tree Planting Needs Volunteers

Come out and help the Stream Team plant 2,000 trees and shrubs to improve water quality and fish habitat along Black Lake Ditch on Saturday, March 28 from 10:00 am-noon. Black Lake Ditch is an important piece of the stream corridor that connects Black Lake to Capitol Lake, through Percival Creek. The City of Olympia owns a 42-acre stormwater facility the straddles Black Lake Ditch. The property, called Black Lake Meadows, collects and treats stormwater runoff from 700 acres of west Olympia before the water enters Percival Creek and Budd Inlet.

Enjoy a leisurely stroll around Black Lake Meadows on the new loop trail, and learn about this unique facility with a bridge for water, newly installed large woody debris, fish passage culvert under R.W. Johnson Road, and resident and migratory wildlife.

The tree planting location is accessible by walking approximately -mile from the entrance to Black Lake Meadows. The entrance is located off R.W. Johnson Road next to the railroad crossing (located between Mottman Road and 21st Avenue, SW). Parking is limited; please car pool. Unfortunately, there is no bus service to this location on Saturdays. This planting is eligible for the action component requirement for the P.S. I Love You tote bag.
