Protect Water and Save on Natural Yard Care Products

Using natural yard care techniques, such as mulch mowing and minimizing pesticides, can vastly improve the quality of local drinking water. Thurston County drinking water comes from groundwater that has soaked into the soil (and through whatever is on your lawn) when it rains. To encourage residents to practice natural yard care, Thurston County, Olympia, Lacey, and Tumwater are sponsoring Northwest Natural Yard Days. Starting April 15, stores around the region will offer natural yard care products at a 25 percent discount through May 15.

Products on sale this year include: electric mulch mowers, push mowers, natural organic fertilizer, compost and woody mulch, water wands and soaker hoses, insecticidal soap, hand weed pullers, and less-toxic moss and slug controls. Look for the Northwest Natural Yard Days picket fence symbol marking discounted products. Participating stores and more information about natural yard care are listed on the website at http://www.yarddays.com.
