Walk in Wildflowers at Prairie Appreciation Day

Friends of Puget Prairies is hosting its 13th annual event in support of this beautiful natural habitat on Saturday, May 3 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Washington Department of Natural Resources Mima Mounds Natural Area Preserve. Activities will include prairie wildflower walks, gardening with native plants demonstrations, birding, a talk about prairie restoration efforts, a hayride, self-guided tours, and information on prairie preservation organizations.

Mima Mounds is located off exit 95 on I-5, the Littlerock exit, about 10 miles south of Olympia. To get to the prairie appreciation event, go west through Littlerock to the T intersection at Mima Road/Waddell Creek Road. Go south (left) on Mima Road 2.7 miles and take a left onto an unmarked gravel road. Please be sure to adhere to the 10 mph speed limit on this road as there are often dogs and small children active nearby. Follow the road to its end and park near the gate. For limited mobility/wheelchair accessible tours turn right on Waddell Creek Road at the T intersection and go 0.7 miles north. Mima Mounds Natural Area Preserve is on the left.

For group tours leave a message for the site manager at 360-596-5144 or send an email to roberta.davenport@wadnr.gov. For more information go to http://www.prairieappreciationday.org.
