Restore Salt Marsh at Priest Point Park

Come out on Saturday, April 26, from 9 a.m. to noon and join in the restoration efforts at the mouth of Mission Creek at Olympia's Priest Point Park. Volunteers will be preparing the area for the removal of an old road and the restoration of salt marsh by ripping out invasive English ivy. Some refreshments will be provided and when the work is over, it is just a short trip to downtown Olympia where the Procession of the Species parade will occur in the afternoon, along with ArtsWalk.

Priest Point Park contains some of the best shoreline habitat in any urban area on Puget Sound. It has one largely functional pocket estuary (Ellis Creek/Cove) and another that will be restored in the near future (Mission Creek/Cove). This event is co-sponsored by People For Puget Sound, City of Olympia, Stream Team, and the South Puget Sound Salmon Enhancement Group.

From Interstate 5 take the Port of Olympia exit and stay on Plum/East Bay Drive until you reach the cool forested green of Priest Point Park. The event will take place on the west side of the road and the meeting spot is at a picnic shelter. There will be signs directing you to the event once you enter the park. Contact Dan at 360-754-9177, 206-313-5903 (cell), or dgrosboll@pugetsound.org for more information.
