Work With Us on Wet Wednesdays!

Help Restore Our Backyard: Olympia's Shoreline Restored By You

Wondering where you and your family can contribute to restoring natural beauty to the South Sound? It's as easy as contacting People for Puget Sound. September 5 is Wet Wednesday in Olympia. All community members are invited to help restore a heavily human-altered area to a more natural shoreline. Your work will help educate and connect people to the natural beauty and environmental richness of the Sound.

On this day, volunteers will do the most important work of removing invasive plants and - over time - creating a beach that will provide habitat for a great diversity of species. The City of Olympia and the Washington Department of Natural Resources support restoring one habitat area at a time; as the landscape transforms, community members enjoy the results of truly caring for our local environment.

To participate, please sign up beforehand with our local office so we can provide enough tools. Please bring sturdy footwear, appropriate dress for the weather, tools and gloves if you have them, and your own lunch and water. We will bring cookies and drinks to share. No experience necessary. Children 10 and under must have adult supervision. From Interstate 5 take the Port of Olympia exit and stay on Plum/East Bay Drive past the southern end of the Bay then look for the sign and volunteers along the shoreline about 1/4 mile from the southern end of the Bay. From downtown Olympia, take East Bay Drive north and look for the sign and volunteers along the shoreline about 1/4 mile from the southern end of the Bay. To sign up beforehand, contact Dan at 360-754-9177, by cell at 206-313-5903, or at mailto:dgrosboll@pugetsound.org
