Cut Down On Carbs

In concert with over a thousand nationwide events, a coalition of local groups have organized Olympia's first annual Climate Action Day Festival, to be held April 14 at Sylvester Park from 12 to 6 p.m.

Join the Critical Mass Bike ride that begins at 11:30 a.m. at Division and Harrison on the Westside, and arrive at the park in time for the event kick-off. Organized by Maya Elson and Jen Campbell, The Evergreen State College Environmental Resource Center members.

Speakers, drumming, and music will spice up the day. Native activist Kyle Raven will give a native blessing, and she and Chad, a native Inuit, will speak from their perspectives regarding problems associated with - and solutions to - global warming.

A Global Warming Café featuring a Low-Carbon Diet will allow those who drop by to find out how they can lose up to 5,000 pounds per year (of carbon emissions). Everyone entering can have their "Carbon Footprint" measured and leave with an idea of how to reduce it. The event is co-Sponsored by the Sustainable Community Roundtable, Northwest Earth Institute and the Green Party of South Puget Sound.

Look for earth flags donated by Earthbound Productions! View Procession of the Species creations that will face extinction if solutions are not implemented in time, visit a permaculture exhibit space sponsored by Eco-City Olympia/Terra Commons, talk with representatives from Olympia's Climate Solutions office, and attend a slide show from 4 to 5 p.m. by Ezra Eickmeyer that presents solutions to global warming (located at the MXX96 meeting room located at the corner of State Ave. and Washington St., downtown).
