Noxious Weed Tour

Date: Tuesday, June 3, 1997

Time: The tour will start promptly at 5:00 PM at the South County Park and return back to the park at approximately 8:00.

Location: South County Park, Toledo, WA

Directions: Interstate 5, Exit 63. East on Hwy. 505 to Toledo. Cross over the Cowlitz River Bridge and take first right onto Ray Road. The tour will originate and end at this location. Car pooling will be encouraged to minimize the vehicles at the various sites.

The tour is a cooperative effort of the Lewis and Cowlitz County Noxious Weed Control Boards. Contact Bill Wamsley (LCNWCB) at 360-740-1215 for more information. WSDA Pesticide Recertification Credits offered.

Site One:
Eurasian Watermilfoil (Myriophyllum spicatum)
Discussion of the management of the Aquatic Weed, Eurasian Watermilfoil with Grass Carp. The past herbicide treatments and present management efforts of milfoil will be reviewed. 35 minutes.

Site Two:
Mouseear Hawkweed (Hieracium pilosella)
Find out about the biology of Mouseear hawkweed, a low growing perennial weed that can invade pastures. A Class A noxious weed in Washington State. 30 minutes.

Site Three:
Meadow Knapweed (Centaurea jacea x nigra)
Learn about Meadow Knapweed, an invasive weed that is found along right of ways and pastures. Compare it with the plant characteristics of Spotted and Diffuse Knapweed. 20 minutes.

Site Four:
Curtail/Escort Herbicide Treatment
Observe and discuss an herbicide treatment to Canada thistle and other broad leaf weeds in a pasture location. 40 minutes.
