River Ridge High School Environmental Club

By Tessa Watson

The River Ridge High School Environmental Club has taken on the project of building a Water Wise Garden at our school. The purpose of a water wise garden is to have plants that, once established, will be self maintaining.

Our club received a $400 grant to start this project. Our school's groundkeeper also donated some soil to the project. Our goal is to have all the plants in place by April 13. With the completion of the garden, our club is hoping to help educate our school and community around us about what they can do to help improve the environment.

If anyone is interested in helping, e-mail Mattigans@aol.com. Also, if your club or organization is interested in creating your own garden, you can start by gathering interested participants and selecting a location for your garden. Once you have decided and are really committed to having a school garden, you can call Carrie Ziegler, Coordinator of the YMCA Earth Service Corps at 360-375-6609, ext. 117.

Tessa Watson is the President of the River Ridge High School Environmental Club.
