Healthful Eating Class Series

Olympia Freeschool's New Community Kitchen Team is offering a series of four classes will help you eat more locally and healthfully. All the classes will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and will take place at the Fertile Ground Guesthouse, 311 9th Avenue SE, Olympia, behind Timberland Regional Library. Pre-registration is not required but recommended since classes are limited to 15 participants. For details and registration, contact summerbock@gmail.com.

Thursday, January 10: "Cooking With the Seasons: A Wintertime Cooking Class," will provide understanding about the importance of eating seasonally on a fundamental level, including a discussion of the term "locavore." Participants will cook a delicious wintertime meal while discussing ideas for simple seasonal eating.

Sunday, February 10: "Cooking and Eating for Thyroid Health: The Basics of Cooking with Seaweed," will discuss how thyroid issues affect metabolism, energy levels, and body temperature. Whether you've experienced thyroid disease, removal, or just low energy or weight gain, this class is for you. You will find simple ways to add thyroid-supporting foods into your diet in tasty ways.

Thursday, February 21: "Preparing for a Cleanse," will discuss a simple, yet highly effective liver cleanse.

Thursday, March 20: "Cooking With the Seasons." With the change of season, the class will move out of the heavy winter foods into something a little greener! Join in a delicious meal with wild greens and learn how to jumpstart your digestion for spring.
