New Education Facilities Will Focus on Water

An exciting partnership is brewing between the Hands On Children's Museum and the LOTT Alliance. Both groups are busy designing new educational facilities to be built adjacent to one another near the East Bay waterfront in Downtown Olympia.

The New Hands On Children's Museum will use water play and hands-on education to inspire children to learn about, appreciate, and care for the many water resources that define our community. Exhibits and educational programs in the new Museum will help foster a sense of environmental stewardship and get kids thinking about the importance of water in our lives.

LOTT's new Education Center will focus on the water cycle, water conservation, reclaimed water, and the science of wastewater treatment. The Education Center will showcase treatment technologies and build upon tours of the Treatment Plant, popular with school groups, adults, and industry professionals.

Because the two groups have traditionally catered to different audiences, there are exciting opportunities to coordinate exhibits and provide learning experiences for all ages. The proximity of a civic plaza adjacent to the two new educational facilities provides even more opportunity for water-focused education, with the potential for water features showcasing reclaimed water.
