West Bay Development Plan

In November, a stakeholders committee will present its vision for West Bay area development alternatives to the Olympia Planning Commission. Early in 2001, changes will be made to zoning, development standards and City policies that affect West Bay. Public review and comment is an important component of the overall Comprehensive Plan process.

The twelve-member West Bay stakeholder committee will create various development scenarios for the area from the 4th Avenue Bridge north to West Bay Marina, and from Rodgers Street to the water's edge.

The planning area has a mix of industrial, commercial, and residential land uses. Property owned by the Port of Olympia contains the West Bay Lagoon, which was deeded in perpetuity to U.S. Fish and Wildlife as mitigation for the Swantown Marina in East Bay. The committee is considering enhancement of the lagoon, recreational opportunities, an urban trail, offices, restaurants, condominiums and other options.

To participate in the process or comment on the West Bay development alternatives, call Pete Swessen at 786-5479 or check the Green Pages calendar on page 8 for meeting times.
