Composting Toilet Workshop Coming Soon

The Green Frog Coop, in partnership with the Energy Outreach Center and LOTT Wastewater Management Partnership, is sponsoring a composting toilet workshop for Thurston County residents July 19. This workshop will provide information on existing, accepted composting toilet systems and another home-built version. Composting toilets conserve water, recycle waste, and prevent water pollution.

The workshop will not promote one type of composting toilet but rather inform the public about current technologies available in the marketplace. Along with this information, a listing will be included from the State Health Department on approved systems. An actual composting toilet will be on display at the Energy Outreach Center's new educational visitor's center in downtown Olympia with educational posters explaining its use.

Additional workshops can be offered on request. The Green Frog Coop will also be providing composting toilet information at a table at the Farmer's Market, and can also provide information about composting human waste. The Coop will be designing and building experimental units, as well as conducting small experiments on existing systems, in order to solve current problems associated with composting toilets. The Green Frog Coop is also accepting new members to help with this valuable work.

Look for results of these experiments on the care and maintenance of composting toilets (e.g. composting temperature, moisture content, and the use of worms) in the future. If you have any questions, please call Pat Holm at 357-4151 or Phil at 352-0494.
