About Us

Our Mission Sound Kids Drum and Dance brings the rhythmic arts of drumming and dancing into our schools. We provide instruction, instruments, and ongoing support for teachers and others who want to broaden the music and dance opportunities of children, helping children develop as musicians, dancers, performers, and contributors to the community.

We believe music holds the key for kids to feel connected and valued.

Sound Kids Drum and Dance is a non-profit organization comprising educators, social service providers, artists, and community activists in Thurston County committed to our mission of supporting those who broaden music and dance opportunities for children. We've catalyzed over 45 rhythm and dance ensembles in 18 schools, the majority performing in the annual Procession of the Species (voted best of its kind in the country in 2010 by Readers Digest). Our focus is to help teachers create ensembles which draw on accessible music and dance traditions, allowing students to quickly gain thrill of bringing joyful music and dance to school assemblies, graduations, local fairs, and beyond.
