South Puget Sound's Community Samba Band & Dance Troupe

Samba Olywa will practice each Sunday in February from 4:00 - 6:00pm at Eagles Grand Ballroom, 4th & Plum Streets, in Olympia. We ask a $5 - $10 donation per week, to help cover our expenses. Practices for the Procession of the Species 2024 will begin on Sunday, March 3, moving to 5:00 - 7:00pm. All are welcome to drum or dance with our group, regardless of prior experience! We invite you to like us on Facebook.

Samba Olywa (based in OLYmpia, WAshington) is an amateur percussion and dance group dedicated to building community through the learning and sharing of Samba and other rhythms. We provide the opportunity for anyone, regardless of experience, to join us as we take our spirited and joyous energy to the streets and to the stage.

Our group began in 1995 as a joyful addition to the Procession of the Species, the Olympia community's honoring of the natural world through music, art, and dance. Soon, invitations to perform at other events came our way. Over the years, Samba Olywa has performed at the Northwest Folklife Festival, high school and college graduations, farmer's market openings, and local events such as the Halloween Bone Gang.
