Flying Critter Housing and Habitat Tour

On Saturday June 16th, join local Audubon Society volunteers to learn about and help our winged friends. Spend all or part of the day at this event, hosted by Ken and Bonnie Miller on their 40-acre tree farm adjacent to Millersylvania State Park. A nest-making workshop will run from 10 a.m. to about 3 p.m., where you may assemble your own bird/bat/bee/duck nest boxes. Supervised children are welcome to participate — everyone gets at least one free nest box or feeder. Donations will be requested to help cover the costs of the larger nest boxes.

At 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., go to the forest thinning demonstration conducted by Tony Sachet, Department of Natural Resources Stewardship Forester. There will be educational displays, and tours can be arranged. Potluck lunch is at noon. Audubon will provide hot dogs and drinks; please just bring a dessert or salad. For directions, go to http://www.blackhillsaudubon.com/ (See the Echo newsletter, page 11, for details.) If lost call 360-705-1888. Sponsored by the South Sound Farm Forestry Association and the Black Hills Audubon Society.
