Community Sustaining Fund
Would you like to make a conscientious contribution to making Thurston County a better place to live? For 28 years, the Community Sustaining Fund has been making micro grants to individuals and organizations that work to strengthen the fabric of our people, communities, and our environment in Thurston County through innovative projects and initiatives.
Our organization is committed to the principles of consensus-based decision making, cultural diversity, community building, sustainability, and the creation of a more just and equitable world of ecological and economic balance and personal and social responsibility.
Joining the Leadership Group on the Community Sustaining Fund is fun, educational, inspirational and a great way to contribute to and be connected with your community. Our organizational culture has been described as low key, casual, warm, and spiced with enthusiasm. The Community Sustaining Fund is looking for committed volunteers who can agree to attend monthly meetings, attend grant interviews twice yearly, participate and support fund raising efforts, communicate with clarity and kindness, and keep the agreements you make. Interested individuals should contact email@example.com.
The Community Sustaining Fund is trying something new this cycle – we are calling out a theme ahead of time and will only be accepting applications that respond to that theme. Special grant criteria for this particular theme – Homelessness Prevention – can be found in the narrative part of the grant application.

The Community Sustaining Fund semiannual grant funding aims to create a more democratic, equitable, nonviolent and ecologically sound society. CSF tends to award funds for start-up costs of projects that might otherwise go unfunded, but with the expectation that these projects will become self sustaining. Grant funds are derived from contributing individuals and businesses. The Community Sustaining Fund is always looking to expand and diversify our volunteer base.
